It’s In God’s Power To Help Us!

 Nehemiah 5:4-5, “And others said,‘We have had to borrow money on our fields and vineyards to pay our taxes.  We belong to the same family as those who are wealthy and our children are just like theirs. Yet we must sell our children into slavery just to get enough money to live. We have already sold some of our daughters, and we are helpless to do anything about it, for our fields and vineyards are already mortgaged to others.’ ” (NLT)

Selling my kids… could I even do that?!!! It only takes a split second before I ask myself a bigger Q: What might I have “sold” my children off to?! Devices!! Knowingly??? NO!!! We couldn’t KNOW what we didn’t KNOW! It was JUST a flip phone; an “Emergency Contact” BUT what it quickly became… a source of pornography!!! We had no idea until we heard about a couple of kids arrested!!! JH boys & JH girls sharing “innocent” photos on flip phones. And back then, parents could only monitor phone #’s! 🙄

Nowadays, I quiver to think what young eyes left unattended are exposed to on these devices. How did we go from crayons & activity pages at the restraurant table to the World Wide Web? To be that desperate to entertan children… seems like a high price. Are children that expendable? This question makes verse 4-5 a worthy comparison. 

It starts so innocent. I get that parents can and should monitor and set time limits… but is it that simple? We were waiting to be seated at a restaurant and witnessed a 6 year old kicking & screaming at the top of his lungs because the mother refused to allow him access to a device the entire wait & meal time. 

Back to the original Q that God pressed into my mind: what are you unknowingly but willfully selling your children into? 

Read chapter 5 of Nehemiah, it’s totally in God’s power to give us the wisdom and strength Not to mortgage our children into slavery. It does come with a price, selflessness… “Direct your children onto the right paths and when they are older, they will not leave it.” Proverbs 22:6 (NLT)

Impulsivity

     Jude 20, "But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit."     Jesus Christ represents to me a calm strength in the every day circumstances of life; panic is not even a shadow in his temperment.  Impulsivity is the opposite.  It is a loud voice in the world that screams to be heard.  Panic is it's MO (Mode of Operation).  Impulsivity stunts our spiritual growth.  Learning how to discipline the impulse to act hastily, or speak too quickly, is key.   Replace your impulsive responses to the every day, 24/7 circumstances, with a slowly developed habit of praying first before speaking or acting.  It may just save you from real embarassment.  Lean into God for an understanding of your circumstances and pray to discern His wisdom and word.  Learning not to be in the center, and live exceptionally in the ordinary, is not easily acquired.

Don't Lose Heart IN the Process

     Coming away from the our 4th Annual Girlfriends Get-a-Way brings an altogether new prospective on this life God has called me to live.... away from Insecurity and Abandonment... praying to know the heart of God in others.... letting go of the past....  forgiving and living and being more intentional about it.... drinking in God's Goodness.... living by FAITH and TRUST to "Reap the Harvest He promised me.... Take back what the Devil stole from me.... I rejoice today for I shall recover it all."      Matthew 7:13-14, "Enter through the narrow gate.  For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."      God never promised me an easy road in this life; I'm continuing to learn how to "rouse myself up" to appreciate the working out of my Salvation in Christ especially in the difficulties that come.  The Question
