Just getting started....

About 2 months ago, I arranged to meet an old friend I had not seen in 17 years.  We both needed a break from our "life" and decided to spend a weekend together renewing our friendship and breaking bread together.  We were greeted almost immediately by our Father at a rather common intersection of our communes, Worry Wort Ave. and Fret NOT Blvd.  It seems we both have a tendency to travel to this intersection quite often but had not noticed the other one as we passed through.  Little did we know that our BIG God was going to use this particular weekend to painstakingly press down this burden we had created for ourselves.  From the mouth of an innocent little 5 year old boy and his crayon coloring book frog came the words we were to learn to live by, "God is great, trust in Him, He will help you Miss Patti!" Thus began the "Steps to Conquering Worry" assignment:
  1. Identify the moment you begin to worry and NIP it, NIP it, NIP it in the bud, Amy!   Worry begins with doubt.  Give it no control; no power.  This requires that I be in tune to my thoughts and their destructiveness to me.
  2. Deliberately tell God I will not fret about this thing!  John 14:1, "Let not your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God, trust also in me."  John 14:27, "....Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
  3. Practice Believing Him to the Positive - now let's be careful with this one.  We're talking about expecting/anticipating what God's going to do; careful not to control it; being open to anything and knowing He intends Good to come from evil.  Genesis 50:20-21, "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.  So don't be afraid.  I will provide for you and your children.  And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them."
  4. Pray in confidence concerning all decisions even those as insignificant as vehicle repairs and meal planning.  Pray that God will take care of that thing; that God will control my thoughts concerning that thing; that God will give me wisdom and guidance to make right decisions related to that thing; to cope in and with my circumstances.  And recognize that no man can do harm to us because God protects us.
As we left our little weekend of renewal and traveled back to our communes, I heard that little voice inside me suggesting that our breaking bread together did not have to wait another 17 years.  Modern technology would afford us the opportunity to come together daily and hear how God continues to speak to us and keeps us closely tuned in to Him and the words He shares with us.  We began by texting our reflections almost daily.  Then the tug to make it broader began and thus is born "Breaking Open the Flask".   Believe me, we have by no means "arrived" nor find ourselves to be "finished products".  And we do NOT claim to have Conquered Worry.  We are here to give you hope!  Hope in a God with a purpose that is bigger than we are and a God BIG enough to accomplish that purpose because we are Fully Relying on God!  ~ Amy Herron
